Why flow metrics matter more than utilisation theatre

Many teams look busy, but that does not always mean value is moving. Flow metrics help leaders and teams understand how work is actually progressing through a system, where it is getting stuck, and what is slowing delivery down.

When organisations focus too heavily on utilisation, they often reward people for being fully occupied rather than helping work move efficiently. That can create delay, overload, and a false sense of productivity.
